Announcing a reading in St. Albert...

The reading at Redwood House on Friday was great. Approx 50 people came out for it and we started at 7
pm and didn't finish up until well after ten. Thanks everyone! By the way, we're going to schedule another one just like it at Redwood House for The Silver Compass next year. And when we do, on top of draws for free books, we'll also be giving away a few silver compasses, so make sure you join us
if you weren't part of this year's crowd.

Note to Northern Albertans...
If you live in or near Edmonton or St. Albert, please join us for a reading this Wednesday, May 16th, at 7:00 pm at the St. Albert Chapters book store located at 445 St. Albert Road.

Holly,
I'M COMING, I'M COMING!
I'm dragging a friend with me and managed to book a couple of hours off work so I make sure I get there. I can't wait, I don't even remember the last time I saw you, I know it's been a long time. Just received your book yesterday, so going to start reading it tonight. Been looking forward to this.

The girls and I will be there. They are very excited to see you again. Will Rick and the boys be coming?

Larramie -- no worries! We'll have a few draws for silver compasses in Feb and March next year right here on my blog :)

Cindy -- I'm so glad you'll be able to make it out. Your mom was at the reading at Redwood House so it was good to see her. (Drive safe, by the way)

Donna -- It'll be nice to see the girls again. Man, that they're all grown up makes me feel old?! No, Rick and the boys won't be at the reading. Just moi :)

I started this post, thought I must have read the figure wrong, went back to check, and I was not mistaken: FIFTY?! That's huge! You must be over the moon. Good for you, it's wonderful when nice people succeed. I guess it helps that the writing is good, too.

I have to ask, what did you talk about for 3 HOURS?! Sounds like it was a lot of fun anyhow.

*rubbing palms* I'd sure like to win one of those silver compasses. Way cool :)

Holly, I really really enjoyed your reading last night.
I had no idea what to expect and it was such a blast. You had my sister laughing so hard, btw, and I had to DRAG her along with me. I cannot WAIT until the reading next April -- sign me up.

Wordman17 -- they are THE most adorable compasses, btw...

The Writers' Group -- Yup, there were at least fifty, which makes it so much more fun than scheduling a reading in a book store and having 4 people show up. I've had a few readings with 20, some with 30 and two with 50, but all were carefully scheduled and promoted, which I think really helps :)

Kyla-Dale -- Well... I talked about how I started writing, shared 'the first piece' I ever wrote, read from The Penny Tree, confided a few secrets about scenes from The Silver Compass, and just... told stories about what my personal writing life is like behind the scenes. If you knew me, you'd KNOW that filling three hours with chatting + some Q&A about publishing is sooooo easy!

Deanna -- I'm glad you came (and that you dragged along your sister, who laughed so hard). I hope you both come next year!!

Tell me what a reading looks like? How many words do you read? How long? Q&A??? I'm doing a reading in June and am nervous! Mainly because I don't actually have a book out yet.... No stumbling block to ME! LOL! I'm reading my Huffington work at an event called "Writers on Autism" in NYC.
