Author acting as tour guide

The guest room at my home is a busy place. There's forever someone coming or going, family or friends on their way to the mountains or on their way home from skiing/hiking/climbing...

At the moment, I have an author, Patricia Wood, visiting from Hawaii who's never seen the Canadian Rockies. Or a black bear. Or a dog as big as a black bear. She flew in to meet with four Calgary book clubs and a library group, all enthusiastic readers and huge supporters of my work. (By the way, thanks ladies. I can't believe there were 38 of you at the bistro last night from the first two clubs. You guys rock!)

While she's here, Pat's also determined to see the mountains, so today I took her to Kananaskis (only minutes from where I live) and also plan to take her to Banff. She keeps begging me to help her spot a moose, which will take more effort than she realizes as she's under the impression one simply snaps their fingers and *poof* a moose materializes, camera ready. Clearly she's been watching waaaay too much Animal Planet, don't you think?

I would love to see a moose.
And the Rocky Mountains.
Have fun!

Sounds like you have a lot of book club support up around where you live. I think that's so great! Years ago nobody ever thought to call and author and invite him or her to a book club chat but now it seems to be a growing fad.
Very nice!

I went skiing to Lake Louise three winters back with a group of friends. It was a great trip (my first in that area of Canada).
Stunning country. Never saw any moose though.

What a great dog!
And that waterfall is breathtaking. Wish I could visit your guest room and get taken around by an author/tour guide!!!

Give her several martinis - a pink moose is certain to appear.

Enjoy the visit! (Don't kill each other...)

I suppose I really was spoiled growing up there and camping at the base of Mount Yamnuska every summer...I never did see a moose though. Lots of goats and elk and a couple of bears from the highway.

Hope Pat brought some warmies!

When I visited my dad in the Okanagan Valley, you wouldn't believe how much I scoured the hillsides for a glimpse of a bighorn sheep.

All we saw were some quails, a groundhog type thing, and some black cows.

The wild horses were a treat, though!

Meanwhile, a black bear was loose in our town north of Toronto last summer.
