At the mercy of technology

It started last week and it's been going down hill fast... I can no longer check email cause my system won't recognize the wireless card. It suddenly won't print, either. Then yesterday, I turned it off and backed away for six hours so I wouldn't toss it against a wall, and when I returned I learned the battery had died. Now the only way it works is if it's plugged in and I type in s-l-o-w motion so it doesn't lock up (ever met a writer who types slowly?)

Clearly February 2008 won't go down as one of my best months. Gah!! Isn't it crazy how dependent we are on technology and how fast a person's mood goes south when things go wrong?

Been there, done that.
Hate like hell when I have system trouble. Hope you get it all straightened out soon.

At least the end of February is in sight. And, yes, we are too dependent BUT what would we do without our high tech? *sigh*

Ugh! Sounds messy.
I don't envy yah. I'd be a complete cow without my machine!!!!

I feel your pain. My desktop died a few weeks ago and typing on a laptop is hard for me.

I live in mortal terror of mine breaking. I don't think I could hand write anything anymore and I'm not good about backing things up...

Sounds like a virus.
I'm a computer geek so if
I lived nearby I'd offer to take a look at it. How old is your
machine?

What kind of computer do you have? Hubby's a tekky guy. Maybe he can offer some advice.

Last time that happened to me I ended up with a new computer. I feel your pain!

I can no longer live without internet access. It really does become part of one's life...

Kick it to the curb
and buy a new one. They're so cheap these days that if yours is more than 2 years old it's not worth the hassle paying for upgrades, etc.

Oh, my mood definitely gets very sour when my computer doesn't work. It is frustrating to the extreme. It's one of our best writing tools, after all!

Sometimes if you use the wireless internet at another location, it kicks your old preferences out and replaces it with a new default one. Then it's hard to find the old one when you get back home.

Am I making sense?

Chumplet -- you're a sweetie for asking & trying to help. I use a laptop for my main system but it hasn't left my desk since last August. I never take it with me when I travel. I honestly think it's just s-l-o-w-l-y being called to the crap heap, piece by technological piece...

Which means, of course, that I'll have to suck it up soon and spend some money on something new.
Argh!
