Preparing for a busy fall

I've been away on a mini family vacation (saw a grizzy bear + two cubs; watched my husband flip a canoe in the middle of a lake; took a dip in Radium Hot Springs) and am just now getting unpacked and reorganized.

ie., I have ten snail mail packages on my desk that were promised to readers from Edson, Alberta to Nova Scotia, New Jersey, Ohio, even Paris, that will finally be delivered to the post office tomorrow. For those who've been waiting on me, sorry it's taken so long!

My website is also being 'refreshed' and I'm hoping to have that posted and off my list within a week. It's clean up time at my end, and after my kids go back to school Sept 2nd, my husband will be heading into a fall with tons of travel all over the globe, which means I'll be writing 5-6 nights/week from 8 pm to 1:00 a.m. during Sep/Oct/Nov so I can get this new novel finished and polished to a shine.

Note to self: must add loads of espresso to my grocery list.

A grizzy and two cubs?!
That would've been something.

(I heart espresso too btw)

Ahh...espresso! Of course! I always wondered how you writers got it all done (and what I had somehow missed along the way!)!!!

Eeeek! I woulda flipped my lid to see a grizzly bear and two cubs. But I sure could use a dip in a hotspring of some sort.

good you were not considered 'food' or a threat by mama griz!

Actually, a light roast would keep you awake better than espresso. The longer a coffee bean is roasted, the less caffeine it holds. So dark roasts taste stronger, but have less caffeine.

Get one of those flavoured coffees; you'll feel like you're drinking something exotic, and take in a lot more caffeine while you're at it.

I'm new to your site. I'm a freelance author and I wanted to say thank you for posting your query letter back in '07. I'm finishing a middle grade novel and have found a list of agent's looking for new authors, so I needed your example. I have my own blog. When your front page popped up I laughed. Mine is identical! Good luck on your new book. I was wondering...why do you write through the night?

Ramona -- it works great for me (the espresso, I mean). I usually only have one a day, though, so I save it for late nights when I'm writing

ORION -- Have fun over there in Hawaii and write quality stuff girl.

Gen -- Thanks for stopping by :)

Trish -- How are things at your end? I hope all is going well.

Adam -- always good to have your and your big feet pop by for a quick post

Kyla-dale: Seeing a grizzly truly is quite the experience. It made me go real quiet, a very unusual thing!

Laughing-wolf (Tony) -- your Tin Box in on the way. Enjoy!

Janet -- thanks so much! I had no idea this was the case. Now I'm bummed, though, cause I don't actually like coffee that much. After traveling to Europe years ago I fell in love with Espresso and now if it isn't thick like mud I can't drink it. That said, as noted above, I truly only have ONE cup a day -- I just sip on it for hours and hours!

Mom2gwyni -- I'm so glad you got some use from my query. How great.
And if our blog pages are the same, great minds clearly think alike, hmmm?

As for why I tend to do so much writing late at night, that's when I do my BEST writing.

I also write each morning from
9 a.m. to Noon but that's when I edit, etc. My hubby travels a lot and it seems late at night is the only time when the phone doesn't ring, the animals and kids are asleep, and all my attention zones in beautifully on my work.

Holly,
I just finished reading Tin Box. I had decided to read your books because I like your blogging and I started with Tin Box. Woohoo, i held my breath a couple of times and BAWLED my eyes out at the end.

Loved the ending.

Note to self: add Penny Tree to "to read" pile

That makes sense. I'm hoping to have more time to write now that my daughter is back in school!

Good luck to you!

Wow! Weeks and weeks of uninterrupted writing time? Great for you, even if you'll miss the hubby!

I'm settling my oldest into college this week, and after that I hope to get back into the swing of things.

My son went back to school this week, but the writing is on hold--we're moving at the end of the week.

I'm excited about the new house but oh man do I hate packing (and unpacking!).

I know you're looking forward to that serene writing time. Bring on the espresso!
