Happy birthday Canada!

Today was Canada Day, aka Canada's birthday, which means tomorrow is a stat holiday for the average Canadian (unless *ahem* you're an author working on manuscript revisions).

I love that my kids get to celebrate in a small town atmosphere where the local firetruck leads the parade and a gaggle of kids who've spent hours decorating their bikes follow. I love that the floats are home grown too, with kids riding in the back playing drums.

I rode my bike down to the main party area to check on my kids a few times. Otherwise, though, they came and went all day,
waving flags and dragging their friends through the house. For some reason, though, the noise didn't get on my nerves today
the way it sometimes does.
Happy birthday Canada!

Happy Birthday Canada!

This reminds me of the small town in Illinois where I grew up.

Sounds like a nice
place to live. I've never
lived in a small town.
Always huge cities.
But I'd like to try.
As long as it wasn't
TOO small that is.
One does need a local
pub nearby

It's one of my favourite days of the year! We got married 16 years ago, and my sister in law gave us a nephew for our 1st anniversary!

Down here, we have the Boy Scout Parade on Memorial day.

Same idea, different country. Similar kids. Fire trucks, too.

You know, I was thinking Memorial day was similar but I guess it's the 4th of July that's similar.

Sometimes I am really out of touch.

Do you Canadians have a Memorial day, too?

Do we share any holidays except Christmas? Is Easter, for example, the same up there?

There were parties??

I wouldn't know. I was glued to the laptop all day trying to get my story done before they announce the contest winners.

Happy Canada day indeed! I was in St.John's Newfoundland for the celebrations, so I got the honour of being one of the very first people to celebrate it!

Hey John -- I'M THE ONE who's usually out of touch between our holidays up here and yours down there. We have Canada Day weekend and you have Fourth of July. Then we have Thanksgiving weekend (in October) and you have Memorial day, which is in Nov, isn't it? Otherwise, we share Christmas and Easter. :)
